① 大人買い（おとながい）
「大人買い」は、自分の好きなものをたくさん買うことです。たとえば、おかしやマンガ、ゲームなどをいっしょにたくさん買います。子どものとき、おかしを買うときは、あまりお金がないので、すこしだけ買いました。でも、大人になると、お金がふえます。だから、大人は子どものときにできなかったことをします。好きなものを好きなだけ買うことができるので、「大人買い」といいます。とくに、子どものときにあまり買えなかったものをたくさん買うと、うれしくなりますね。

② まとめ買い
「まとめ買い」は、生活にひつようなものをたくさん買うことです。たとえば、トイレットペーパーやお水、しょうゆやお米などです。これは、お金と時間をせつやくするためです。たとえば、スーパーでいつも買うものがやすくなったときに、まとめて買います。毎日スーパーに行くのは大変ですから、一回でたくさん買うと、べんりです。また、家族がたくさんいる人は、よく「まとめ買い」をします。

③ ちがいは？
「大人買い」は、楽しいものをたくさん買うことです。おかしやゲーム、マンガなど、自分が好きなものを好きなだけ買います。いっぽう、「まとめ買い」は、生活にひつようなものをたくさん買うことです。トイレットペーパーやお水など、いつもつかうものをまとめて買います。

① Otona-gai (Bulk Buying Like an Adult)

“Otona-gai” means buying a lot of things you like. For example, buying a lot of snacks, manga, or games at once. When you were a child, you couldn’t buy a lot of snacks because you had little money. But when you become an adult, you have more money. So, adults do things they couldn’t do as children. Since they can buy as much as they like, it is called “otona-gai.” Especially when buying things they couldn’t afford as children, it makes them very happy.

② Matome-gai (Bulk Buying for Necessities)

“Matome-gai” means buying a lot of necessary daily items. For example, toilet paper, water, soy sauce, and rice. This is done to save money and time. For example, when something you always buy is on sale at the supermarket, you buy a lot at once. Going to the supermarket every day is hard, so buying a lot at once is convenient. Also, people with large families often do “matome-gai.”

③ What’s the difference?

“Otona-gai” is buying a lot of fun things. Snacks, games, manga, etc.—you buy as much as you want of the things you like. On the other hand, “matome-gai” is buying a lot of necessary daily items. Toilet paper, water, etc.—you buy in bulk the things you always use.
