七五三 – This is How Japan Celebrates Children’s Growth

日本にほんでは、11月がつ15日にちに七五三しちごさんという行事ぎょうじがあります。これは 3才さい・5才さい・7才さいの子こどもの成長せいちょうをお祝いわいする日ひです。昔むかしは子こどもが大おおきくなることが大変たいへんだったので、元気げんきに育そだったことを神様かみさまに感謝かんしゃしていました🙏

この日ひには家族かぞくで神社じんじゃに行いってお参まいりします。
「これからも元気げんきに大おおきくなりますように」とお願ねがいをします。子こどもどもは着物きものを着きることが多おおいです。女おんなの子こはかわいい着物きもの、男おとこの子こは羽織はおりと袴はかまを着きることがあります。最近さいきんはスーツやドレスも人気にんきです👘

七五三しちごさんといえば、細ほそくて長ながい千歳飴ちとせあめです。
「長生ながいきできますように」「健康けんこうでありますように」という願ねがいがあります。私わたしも昔七五三むかししちごさんで着物きものを着きたのを覚おぼえています😆遠とおい昔むかしですが😂

【English Translation】

In Japan, on November 15, there is an event called Shichi-Go-San.
This is a day to celebrate the growth of 3-, 5-, and 7-year-old children.
In the past, it was difficult for children to grow up safely, so people thanked the gods when children grew up healthy.

On this day, families go to a shrine and pray.
They say, “We pray that you will continue to grow up healthy.”
Many children wear kimono.
Girls wear cute kimono, and boys sometimes wear haori and hakama.
Recently, suits and dresses are also popular.

When we think of Shichi-Go-San, we think of the long, thin candy called Chitose-ame.
It contains wishes such as “May you live a long life” and “May you be healthy.”
I also remember wearing a kimono for Shichi-Go-San when I was little.
It was a long time ago though.
