In this post, we’ll learn how to express your likes and dislikes for nouns (things, people, or activities as nouns).

🌸 1. Saying “I Like…” in Japanese

The most common way to say “like” is 好すき.

🧩 Basic pattern:
👉 [noun] が 好すきです。
(“I like [noun].”)

📝 Examples:

• りんごが好すきです。
  　I like apples. 🍎
• 日本語にほんごが好すきです。
  　I like the Japanese language.
• 猫ねこが好すきです。
  　I like cats. 🐱

💡 Tip:
In Japanese, we use the particle が (ga) before 好すき — not を —
because 好すき is an adjective, not a verb!

😍 Bonus: Saying “I Love…” in Japanese

When you really love something, say:
👉 大好だいすきです。

📝 Examples:

• 音楽おんがくが大好だいすきです。
  　I love music. 🎵
• 犬いぬが大好だいすきです。
  　I love dogs! 🐶

😐 2. Saying “I Don’t Like…” in Japanese

To say you don’t like something, just make 好すき negative:
👉 好すきじゃないです。

🧩 Pattern:
[noun] が 好すきじゃないです。
(“I don’t like [noun].”)

📝 Examples:

• 納豆なっとうが好すきじゃないです。
  　I don’t like natto. 😖
• 勉強べんきょうが好すきじゃないです。

You can also say it more formally:
👉 好すきではありません。

💢 Bonus: Saying “I Hate…” or “I Really Don’t Like…”

If you really dislike something, use:
👉 嫌きらいです。

📝 Examples:

• 虫むしが嫌きらいです。
  　I hate insects. 🐛
• にんじんが嫌きらいです。
  　I don’t like carrots. 🥕

To make it sound softer, you can say:
👉 あまり好すきじゃないです。
(“I don’t really like it.”)
