【English Translation】

This month, I had the most “Japanese” week of my life. (Even though I’m Japanese lol).
I watched a sumo training session and also joined a taiko drumming club! Both were such new experiences and great learning moments even for me, so I wanted to share them with you all! (Right photo : Me and my frinds/students)

First, sumo!
There’s a rule that you’re not allowed to share photos of sumo training on social media, so I can’t show you here—but I honestly didn’t know sumo could be THIS interesting. (Right photo: We went to eat chanko nabe, a hot pot that sumo wrestlers often eat.)

Sumo has a strong connection to Shinto, and I learned not only the rules, but also its history and even what the wrestlers’ daily lives are like. The power and intensity were incredible.
You can watch training up close, so I really recommend it!

And then, the taiko class!
Actually, I joined a taiko club for a little while when I was a kid, so I had some experience—but this time it was a huge level up!
The practice was about an hour and a half, and it was seriously exhausting (in a good way). It’s great exercise too! The next day, my arms were so sore… Really!

I’d never experienced so much Japanese culture in just one week, so it felt super refreshing.
Even though I’m Japanese, it made me love Japanese culture even more!
