【English Translation】

Have you ever climbed Mt. Fuji? Or would you like to climb it someday?

Every July, Mt. Fuji’s climbing season officially begins. 🗻 In Japanese, this is called 山開き (Yamabiraki), which means “the opening of the mountain”—the start of the period when people are allowed to climb it. During the winter, there is a lot of snow, making the trails dangerous, so they are closed. In summer, the snow decreases, and it becomes safe to climb again.

Mt. Fuji is the tallest mountain in Japan, standing at 3,776 meters (12,389 feet). It is also one of Japan’s most famous symbols. In 2013, it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Every year, not only Japanese people but also visitors from all over the world come to see and climb it.

There are several climbing routes on Mt. Fuji. Most people first travel by bus or car to the 5th Station (Gogōme), and begin their climb from there toward the summit. The 5th Station has shops, restaurants, and places to rest, so climbers can prepare before starting their hike. Many people begin climbing in the evening or at night so they can watch the sunrise from the top. This beautiful sunrise is called ご来光 (Goraikō) and is a special memory for many climbers.

Climbing Mt. Fuji requires good preparation. Even in summer, it can be very cold near the summit, and the weather can change suddenly. That’s why it’s important to bring warm clothing, comfortable hiking shoes, as well as food and drinks. Don’t push yourself—climb at your own pace and stay safe.

Of course, you don’t have to climb Mt. Fuji to enjoy it. It’s also beautiful when viewed from a distance, and you can enjoy different scenery depending on the season and the location.

Would you like to climb Mt. Fuji someday, or would you rather admire its beautiful views from afar?
