カフェ vs 喫茶店 – What’s the difference?

みなさん、こんにちは！

あの、「喫茶店きっさてん」って聞きいたことがありますか？日本にほんにはたくさんの喫茶店きっさてんがあります。喫茶店きっさてんはコーヒーを飲のんだりケーキを食たべるところです。本ほんを読よんだり、友ともだちと話はなしたりします。仕事しごとをする人ひともいます。とても静しずかで、ゆっくりできます。でも「カフェ」もありますよね。何なにが違ちがうのでしょうか？

違ちがいは２つあります！まずお店みせの雰囲気ふんいきやイメージによって違ちがいます。（これはオフィシャルな違ちがいじゃなくて人ひとのイメージ🫢）「カフェ」のイメージはもっとモダンでおしゃれなイメージ… 「喫茶店きっさてん」は少すこし古ふるくて昔むかしからある場所ばしょのイメージ… これは大体だいたいの人ひとがイメージする違ちがいだと思おもいます。

でも実際じっさいには「お酒さけが提供ていきょうできるかどうか」と「食事しょくじ」が違ちがうんです😮カフェではアルコールが提供ていきょうできますが、喫茶店きっさてんではアルコールは提供ていきょうできません！！そして食たべ物ものについても違ちがいます… (これは日本人にほんじんも知しらないかも…) カフェではいろいろな調理ちょうりをした食事しょくじが提供ていきょうできますが、喫茶店きっさてんではケーキやパフェなど簡単かんたんな食たべ物もの (冷蔵保存れいぞうほぞんできる食たべもの)だけ！うーん、面白おもしろいですね～

最近さいきんはカフェの方ほうが多おおくて人気にんきだと思おもいますが、喫茶店きっさてんも雰囲気ふんいきがとてもレトロで素敵すてきだと思おもいますよ！ぜひ行いってみてください😁

Do you know what a “kissaten” is?

There are many kissaten (traditional coffee shops) in Japan. A kissaten is a place where you can drink coffee and eat cake. People read books there, chat with friends, and some even work. It’s very quiet and relaxing. But there are also “cafés,” right? What’s the difference?

There are two differences! First, the atmosphere and image of the shops are different. (This is not an official difference, but more about people’s image 🫢) A “café” is usually seen as more modern and stylish… while a “kissaten” has the image of being a bit old and a place that’s been around for a long time… I think this is how most people imagine the difference.

But actually, the real differences are whether they can serve alcohol and the type of food. 😮 In a café, they can serve alcohol, but in a kissaten, they cannot serve alcohol!! Also, there is a difference in food… (Even many Japanese people don’t know this…) In a café, they can serve various cooked meals, but in a kissaten, they only serve simple foods like cakes and parfaits (foods that can be kept refrigerated)! Hmm, interesting, isn’t it?

Recently, I think cafés are more common and popular, but kissaten also have a wonderful retro atmosphere! Please try visiting one 😁
