あの、「喫茶店」って聞いたことがありますか？日本にはたくさんの喫茶店があります。喫茶店はコーヒーを飲んだりケーキを食べるところです。本を読んだり、友だちと話したりします。仕事をする人もいます。とても静かで、ゆっくりできます。でも「カフェ」もありますよね。何が違うのでしょうか？
違いは２つあります！まずお店の雰囲気やイメージによって違います。（これはオフィシャルな違いじゃなくて人のイメージ🫢）「カフェ」のイメージはもっとモダンでおしゃれなイメージ… 「喫茶店」は少し古くて昔からある場所のイメージ… これは大体の人がイメージする違いだと思います。
でも実際には「お酒が提供できるかどうか」と「食事」が違うんです😮カフェではアルコールが提供できますが、喫茶店ではアルコールは提供できません！！そして食べ物についても違います… (これは日本人も知らないかも…) カフェではいろいろな調理をした食事が提供できますが、喫茶店ではケーキやパフェなど簡単な食べ物 (冷蔵保存できる食べもの)だけ！うーん、面白いですね～
最近はカフェの方が多くて人気だと思いますが、喫茶店も雰囲気がとてもレトロで素敵だと思いますよ！ぜひ行ってみてください😁

Do you know what a “kissaten” is?
There are many kissaten (traditional coffee shops) in Japan. A kissaten is a place where you can drink coffee and eat cake. People read books there, chat with friends, and some even work. It’s very quiet and relaxing. But there are also “cafés,” right? What’s the difference?
There are two differences! First, the atmosphere and image of the shops are different. (This is not an official difference, but more about people’s image 🫢) A “café” is usually seen as more modern and stylish… while a “kissaten” has the image of being a bit old and a place that’s been around for a long time… I think this is how most people imagine the difference.
But actually, the real differences are whether they can serve alcohol and the type of food. 😮 In a café, they can serve alcohol, but in a kissaten, they cannot serve alcohol!! Also, there is a difference in food… (Even many Japanese people don’t know this…) In a café, they can serve various cooked meals, but in a kissaten, they only serve simple foods like cakes and parfaits (foods that can be kept refrigerated)! Hmm, interesting, isn’t it?
Recently, I think cafés are more common and popular, but kissaten also have a wonderful retro atmosphere! Please try visiting one 😁
