今回（こんかい）– “This Time”

今回こんかい refers to the current occasion or event that is happening now or just happened.

Think of it as:

• this time
• on this occasion
• for this event

It is often used in:

• presentations
• news
• formal writing
• business emails
• announcements

• 今回こんかいのテストは難むずかしかったです。
• This time’s test was difficult.

Nuance: You are talking specifically about the current or most recent event.

今度（こんど）– “Next Time” / “Soon”

今度こんど is more flexible and casual.

It often means:

• next time
• sometime soon
• in the near future

But here’s the tricky part:

今度こんど does not always strictly mean “next.”

It can also mean “one of these days” depending on context.

• 今度一緒こんどいっしょにご飯はんに行いきましょう。
• Let’s go eat together next time / sometime soon.
  
• 今度日本こんどにほんに行いきます。
• I’m going to Japan soon.
