【English Translation】

February 22 is “Cat Day” in Japan! Did you know that?
Because 222 can be read as “nyan nyan nyan,” this day was chosen. Normally, the number 2 is not read as “nyan,” but this kind of wordplay is called gorōawase. It means matching numbers or words with similar sounds.

There is also a word called “Nekonomics,” and on this day, cat treats and toys become cheaper, and cat cafés have special events. On social media, many cute cat photos and videos are posted!

It seems that “Cat Day” is not only in Japan, but also in many countries around the world. I don’t have a pet, but I often watch cat videos on social media to relax my tired heart.

This is different from “Cat Day,” but in Japan there is something called a “maneki-neko” (beckoning cat). Have you heard of it? “Maneki” comes from the verb “maneku,” which means “to invite,” and it has a happy meaning of inviting good luck!

Are there any cat lovers here? Do you have a cat?
