【English Translation】

Do you know the traffic rules in Japan? If you are planning to visit Japan or rent a car, it’s a good idea to check them in advance. Knowing the rules will help you travel safely and with confidence.

In Japan, pedestrians, bicycles, and cars all keep to the left. Cars drive on the left side of the road, and the driver’s seat is on the right. If it’s your first time driving in Japan, it may feel a little unfamiliar at first.

You also need to be careful when riding a bicycle. Bicycles must follow traffic rules just like cars. Wearing a helmet is important. “Distracted driving” is prohibited, so you must not use your smartphone or wear earphones while riding. Of course, riding after drinking alcohol is strictly forbidden.

When walking on the street, pedestrians have priority. Some roads are clearly marked “Pedestrians First.” Always cross at a crosswalk after the traffic light turns green. If the green light is flashing, it is safer to wait for the next green light rather than rushing across.

At the famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing in Tokyo, many people cross the street at the same time. While many visitors stop to take photos, be careful not to block others or cause inconvenience.

If an accident happens, call 110 for the police or 119 for an ambulance. It is important to stay calm and act carefully.

By following traffic rules, everyone can live safely and comfortably. When you visit Japan, be sure to respect the rules and enjoy your time there.
