Japan’s Labor Thanksgiving Day: Everything You Need to Know

English Translation

There is no Thanksgiving in Japan… but on November 23rd, we have “Labor Thanksgiving Day”! This is a day to appreciate people who work. It’s a day to say “thank you” to your family, friends, coworkers, and even to yourself.

Labor Thanksgiving Day comes from an old event called “Niinamesai.” In Niinamesai, people thanked the gods for the year’s rice harvest and food. Because of this tradition, the day eventually became a day to show appreciation for people’s work.

It’s a national holiday, so many people have the day off, but we don’t really do anything special. Mot people just relax at home or go shopping! Maybe it’s because everyone is tired from working so hard.

Do you have friends or family members who work a lot? Are you tired every day too?
Everyone, thank you for all your hard work! Let’s take a break from work sometimes and give ourselves time to relax!
