こどもの日に、こいのぼりをかざります。こいのぼりは、さかなのかたちです。大きいこいのぼりはお父さんです。中くらいはお母さんです。小さいこいのぼりは子どもです。風がふくと、こいのぼりはそらをおよぎます。とてもきれいです。まちやこうえんでも、こいのぼりを見ることができます。

こどもの日に、かしわもちを食べます。かしわもちは、もちの中にあんこがあります。かしわの葉でつつみます。とてもおいしいです。ちまきを食べる人もいます。

男の子の家では、かぶとや人形をかざります。つよくて、元気な子になりますように、というねがいがあります。へやの中に小さい人形をおく人もいます。

こどもの日は、子どもが主役です。みんなであそんだり、ごはんを食べたりします。おばあさんやおじいさんの家に行く人もいます。たのしい日です。

こどもの日ひは、子こどもが主役しゅやくです。みんなであそんだり、ごはんを食たべたりします。おばあさんやおじいさんの家いえに行いく人ひともいます。たのしい日ひです。

【English Translation】

In Japan, May 5th is “Children’s Day.” Children’s Day is a holiday for children. It is a day to celebrate children’s health and growth. Families celebrate their children together.

On Children’s Day, people put up koinobori (carp streamers). Koinobori are shaped like fish. The big carp is the father. The medium one is the mother. The small carp is the child. When the wind blows, the carp swim in the sky. They look very beautiful. You can also see koinobori in towns and parks.

On Children’s Day, people eat kashiwa mochi. Kashiwa mochi is rice cake with sweet red bean paste inside. It is wrapped in an oak leaf. It is very delicious. Some people also eat chimaki (sweet rice wrapped in bamboo leaves).

In houses with boys, families display helmets (kabuto) or warrior dolls. This is to hope that the child becomes strong and healthy. Some people put small dolls inside their rooms.

Children’s Day is a special day for children. Families play together and eat meals together. Some people visit their grandparents’ houses. It is a fun and happy day.
