Are you doing any eco-friendly activities?
Eco-friendly activities are actions that are kind to the Earth. For example, reducing trash, using less electricity, and riding a bicycle instead of driving a car. In Japan, there are also many kinds of eco-friendly activities.
Garbage Separation
In Japan, people separate their garbage properly. For example, they separate burnable trash, PET bottles, glass bottles and cans, and plastics before throwing them away. The rules are different depending on the town, so if you live in Japan, it’s a good idea to check once. Separating garbage is very important for recycling, isn’t it?
Eco Bags
When shopping at the supermarket, plastic bags cost money. So, many people use eco bags. Eco bags are reusable bags. In the past, plastic bags were free, but since 2020, they have become chargeable. Using eco bags helps reduce waste, so it’s good for the environment.
Using Bicycles and Trains
When cars are used, they release a gas called carbon dioxide. It’s not good for the Earth, so in Japan, many people commute by bicycle or train. Especially in big cities, trains and subways are very convenient, so many people go to work by train. Recently, a rental bike service has also started.
Compared to Other Countries
Eco-friendly activities are gradually spreading in Japan. However, the speed is a little slow. For example, in some European countries, they already use paper straws. But in Japan, there are still many stores that use plastic straws. Little by little, though, Japan is also becoming an eco-friendly country.
Eco-Friendly Things You Can Do
Even small things like turning off the lights, taking shorter showers, using eco bags, and not wasting water can make a big difference if you keep doing them.
