Japan’s summers are very hot. From around May to October, hot days continue almost every day. Especially in July and August, the temperatures are so high that even going outside can be tough. When going to work, wearing a suit and tie can be very uncomfortable and puts a strain on the body.

That’s why in Japan, there is a style called “Cool Biz,” usually from May to September. Cool Biz is a rule that allows people to wear cooler, more comfortable clothing at the office during summer. For example, you don’t have to wear a tie, and jackets are not required. Many people work in short-sleeved shirts and light clothing.

During this period, office air conditioners are also set to a higher temperature to reduce electricity use. This is an environmentally friendly approach.

Cool Biz is also good for your health. Wearing heavy suits on extremely hot days can make you feel tired more easily. But by wearing lighter clothes, you can work more comfortably. It also helps improve your mood and makes it easier to focus on work.

Nowadays, many companies have adopted Cool Biz. It’s a simple and practical idea to get through Japan’s hot summer.
