💡 “Part” or “aspect”

彼かれのいいところは、優やさしいところです。
→ His good point is that he is kind.

Here, ところ means something like “point” or “aspect.”

📝 “Situation”

ちょうど今いま、勉強べんきょうしているところです。

In this grammar pattern, 〜ているところ describes what is happening right now.

② 場所（ばしょ）

場所（ばしょ） specifically refers to a place, location, or space.

It is commonly used when you want to identify where something is located or where something happens.

→ Please tell me where the station is.

ここは静しずかな場所ばしょです。
→ This is a quiet place.

会議かいぎの場所ばしょはどこですか？
→ Where is the meeting location?

場所（ばしょ） sounds more specific and objective when talking about a physical location.

ところ vs 場所（ばしょ）

駅えきのところ

This can sound like “the area/spot around the station” or “the place where the station is,” depending on context.

駅えきの場所ばしょ

This clearly means “the station’s location.”

駅えきの場所ばしょを教おしえてください。
→ Please tell me where the station is.

So when you specifically want to ask about the location of something, 場所（ばしょ） is often the clearer choice.

⚠️ But sometimes both work!

For example:

好すきなところ
→ favorite place / favorite part / favorite thing about something

好すきな場所ばしょ
→ favorite place / favorite location

The meaning changes slightly depending on context.

🏞️ Physical place

私わたしの好すきな場所ばしょは公園こうえんです。
→ My favorite place is the park.

Here, 場所（ばしょ） clearly refers to a physical location.

💕 Favorite aspect

この店みせの好すきなところは、店員てんいんさんが親切しんせつなところです。
→ What I like about this restaurant is that the staff are friendly.

Here, ところ means “aspect” or “thing I like about it.”

You cannot replace it with 場所（ばしょ） here.
