【English Translation】

Japan has many delicious foods, but one of my favorites is soba.

Many people may have heard of “toshikoshi soba,” the soba eaten on New Year’s Eve in Japan. However, the soba I want to talk about here is cold “zaru soba.”

Recently, the weather has started getting hot, which means soba season has arrived. I have been eating it almost every day lately.

Zaru soba is eaten by dipping the noodles into a sauce called “tsuyu.” People often add green onions, wasabi, or seaweed to the sauce for extra flavor.

Soba has a very simple and refreshing taste. It is also popular as a healthy food because it feels light and not too heavy, even on hot days. Eating cold soba almost makes you feel cooler in the summer heat.

There are many different types of soba noodles, and even the thickness can change depending on the style. For example, there is juwari soba, made from 100% buckwheat flour, and cha soba, the green-colored soba made with tea. Each type has its own unique taste and texture.

In Japan, you can easily buy dried soba noodles and tsuyu at supermarkets, so many families enjoy eating soba during the summer at home.

You can also find soba at convenience stores, but I personally recommend trying it at a traditional soba restaurant. Many soba restaurants have a very Japanese atmosphere that makes the experience even more special.

If you visit Japan, I highly recommend trying authentic cold soba. It is simple, delicious, healthy, and full of traditional Japanese beauty.
